They're also announcing they will be out in force to check for drunk and drugged drivers, as well as aggressive drivers.

To make sure all stay safe, they will begin extra patrols at midnight, Friday, Aug. 30 and continue through 11:59 p.m., Monday, Sept. 2.

“The priority of all operators should be arrival at their destination in a safe manner," said Col. Stavros Mellekas, commanding officer of the Connecticut State Police "Give yourself plenty of time to drive, plan for traffic delays and proceed with caution. Obeying the rules of the road is everyone’s responsibility."

Troopers said as always if you plan to drink, have a designated driver and to obey the Move Over Law which requires drivers to slow their speed limit and move over at least one lane for emergency vehicles as long as it is safe to do so. They also say to buckle up, drive at the speed limit, put down cellphones and focus on driving.

During the Labor Day 2018 weekend, troopers issued 1,314 tickets for speeding, 2,474 tickets for hazardous moving violations, 47 tickets for seatbelt violations and made 24 arrests for driving under the influence. Troopers also investigated 281 motor vehicle crashes, 63 with injury, and no fatalities.
